Founded in May of 2000, Chez Fonfon was Pardis and Frank Stitt’s answer to Birmingham’s need for an urban bistro. Fonfon represents the essential hangout—wonderful for a peaceful afternoon lunch and game of boule in the courtyard; dinner before the theater; or a stop on a Friday evening out. Homemade pâtés, steak tartare, croque monsieurs, trout with brown butter and steak frites are some of the local favorites. Patrick Dunne (of Lucullus fame) is responsible for the décor, including authentic elements such as the French Belle Epoque café tables and 100 year old etched glass door from Lyons. The marble wainscoting and mahogany paneling for the bar were rescued out of a glorious old Birmingham office building.

In October 2006, Chez Fonfon was honored by Food & Wine as one of "America’s 50 Most Amazing Wine Experiences” and has also been featured many local and national publications such as Garden & Gun, Southern Living, Cooking Light. And in July 2010 the “Fonfon burger” was voted Birmingham’s best burger by Birmingham Magazine.
